Jimmy comes through! Poor Bob may be left fuming and foaming at the mouth because he feels slighted in the whole "supereponymous thingie" but I, as the winner of MacDougall's Trivia Pop Quiz, actually have something to show for my victory: a fine mixed cd has arrived in the mail. Not only does it say "Micheal [sic] Gregory Trivia Pop Quiz Winner October 2002" right on the disc itself, it has a full color insert featuring Alfred E. Neumann and other comic stuff. Printed on the inside of the insert it says "This friggin cd commerates [sic] your victory." Interestingly, despite the care and attention gone into the design of the thing (aside from the lack of copy editing, of course), the song list is scrawled in a shaky hand on four post-it notes stuck to the inside cover.
As for the songs themselves: some old fave's (Squeeze's Cool for Cats, the Sanford and Son theme, Nick Drake's Northern Sky [my alltime favorite love song, incidentally]), some bollocks (Supertramp's Long Way Home, Wild Cherry's Play that Funky Music White Boy), and some surprises (the Kingston Trio? Whatthefuck?) All in all, a trophy to cherish.
I must say, though, that Galvin's mixed cd for Melle Mel that arrived some months ago is still my favorite homemade compilation of the year, only because it contains The Motels' Total Control, still the greatest song to be recorded in May 1979.
Oh, I seem to be back. Hello!
