Couldn't handle blogging last week. Couldn't handle much, actually. I've been all jittery at work, unable to get any work done, just as unable to goof off productively (i.e. blog). Are 8 hour workdays spent under the glow of fluorescent lights finally getting to me? Somehow I've ended up on all these committees - the employee advisory committee, the administrative support committee, etc. My boss, thinking I'm a model employee and seemingly looking out for my career, has pushed me onto all these things. I guess it'd be great if I planned to stay here for years and years. But I don't.

And currying my boss's favor finally looked like it had paid off: I scammed an assignment to be sent to a seminar at Stanford in late April on federal grant funding. Whoop-de-doo. Yeah, but it meant a free flight to SF and a chance to hang out for a weekend. We all had to write a brief paragraph on why we should be sent to the seminar and the boss chose two of us based on our eloquent prose. Naturally I was one of the lucky winners.

But...

...by the time the attendees were selected, registration had closed. As I just found out last Monday. Which is why I was royally pissed.

So I don't get a free flight to SF in late April. Instead, I get the privilege of going to the next scheduled seminar. In June. In Baltimore.

It's a lot farther away. I fly out at noon and arrive at 10. I spend a total of 4 days. In Baltimore.

Oh, did I mention my traveling companion is a devout Muslim? A really nice guy who made the pilgrimage to Mecca this year and came back with a big bushy beard and a white lace cap on his head. I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun flying together.
