spin
in the Debates, part I, i was a little surprised at the kerry-kicked-ass spin. and this time, when i thought it was more warranted, the spin says draw.
i think the debates were summed up best by bush's 30 second rebuttal after the 3-instances-where-he'd-made-a-mistake question. no actual admittance of mistakes other than the ultimate accidental admittance - the state of the world if Kerry was the President:
"The truth of that matter is, if you listen carefully, Saddam would still be in power if he were the president of the United States, And the world would be a lot better off."
no one even flinched. but that's probably just because they agree, the world WOULD be a lot better off.
yesterday i received a cd i'd been looking for and not able to get - Carla Bruni. i was looking for one song, "Quelqu'Un M'a Dit." so beautiful. anyway - was pretty funny - ordered it from france - had no idea what i was doing - as i don't speak french. but turns out i clicked the right buttons. very cool.
now we just need to find someone who can translate the lyrics for us - as we we're thinking of using it in our ceremony - but first we want to know what she's saying. anyone out there able to tell me what these lyrics mean?
was great to see everyone at Calmer Than You Are's last concert at EMP last night. they were, as always, excellent.
we look forward to having everyone over for our housewarming next weekend. looking around here though- we still have a TON to do. nothing like incentive.
tonight we go to my stepcousin's wedding. on the eastside. he converted to catholocism for his bride to be. he's been going to classes for catholic lessons for many months now. i'll be looking to pithicus for cues on what to do doing the strange catholic rituals. but maybe it wont be that foreign, as i had a pretty hefty wicca phase and i hear the two aren't all that different. i'll bring my athame and my cauldron for the adjoining ritual.

I'll ask Annick since she is the one who introduced it to me and jacko (i think).
Anyway she loves the song and is bilingual. What if the lyrics aren't appropriate?
Well, if the lyrics aren't appropriate for a wedding, then we are going to use Elton John's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" as our song. We both LOVED the Lion King, and we are going to have a Disney themed wedding!
Well, either that or we'll have an S&M themed wedding and go with John Cougar's "Hurt's So Good".
i still think that disney and s&m can coexist in one wedding.
i guess if the words aren't fitting then we'll keep questing for the perfect song.
thanks for checking on the meaning. i'm very curious.
oh, and i'm all for the story thing.
Hey guys - really quickly - without revision the lyrics translated literally are as follows (I could do something more poetic if you wanted me to)
Somebody told me
I'm told our lives aren't worth much
They pass by in an instant as roses wilt
I'm told that Time slipping by is a jerk and that of our sorrows he makes coats and yet somebody told me… (refrain)
That you loved me still
It's somebody who told me that you loved me still
Could this be possible then?
I'm told that Destiny cares nothing for us (or makes fun of us - could be either)
That he gives us nothing and promises us everything
It seems that happiness is within reach
So we hold out our hand and discover we're crazy
(literally: find ourselves mad)
Yet somebody told me…(refrain)
But who told me that you loved me still?
I don't remember any more, it was late at night
I still hear the voice but can no longer see features
"He loves you, it's a secret, don't tell him I told you"
You see somebody told me…
That you loved me still, truly told me…
That you loved me still, could this then be?
I'm told our lives aren't worth much
Elles passent en un instant comme fanent les roses
They pass in a moment as roses fade
I'm told that time slipping by (this passing time) is a jerk
That he makes coats of our sorrows
Yet somebody told me that…
Refrain
