Interesting day...I've been trying to ignore this developing pain in my chest over the past week, hoping it was a strained muscle and would go away. Last night I was having pain breathing, and so this morning I called my doc to schedule an appt. and he sent me straight to the ER. Three hours later, I'm back at work having gone through EKG's, chest x-rays etc. etc. The results?: they're not sure, probably a strained muscle. But coming out of the ER, having gone through an increasingly morbid meditation on the possible scenarios, and walking into the beauty of a bright, sunny, Seattle afternoon with a relatively clean bill of health, I definitely perceive the grace of the world with more crytalline clarity. I feel sufficiently reminded that I'm not ready to go yet. I was reminded of MSG's cancer scare last year, though my scare was a relatively brief and painless ordeal compared to his.

This is mildly amusing.

I have to give up respect for the very moving And No More Shall We Party, the first of the Burning Ring of Fire series, compiled by james. I put it on in the rainy night on the way out to the station last night, and listened to the second half on the way home. I sat in front of my house in the car crying, broken down and broken through, listening to Gillian Welch. The mix really tells a story full of beauty, pain, love and rage.

Music can be tremendously powerful in breaking through the fronts and defenses we shield ourselves with to get through the day, the night, in this increasingly fractured, wounded world, culture, society. I feel, and hear of others feeling so much fear and anger and uselessness in the face of our would-be emperors empty jubilation. Spring and its sweet lusty smells just heighten my sense that this is a time for mourning.

Pledge early and pledge often! The dreaded Pledge Drive is coming up next week. All of you winning gamblers, players and private eyes should call in to show your love for the show and $$$ on 5/1 May Day! Remember, no amount is too much or too little...Call 425-564-2424 or pledge online at kbcs.fm and be sure to mention the show you love ;)~

It looks as if the month of May on A Call For All Demons will have a stellar line-up of special guests: Producers Aja West & Cheeba of the Mackrosoft will be in the studios for 2 weeks (5/8 & 5/15). They may bring some of the local cats they've been recording with to perform live. Also, saxophonist Marc Fendel, and bassist Geoff Harper of Bebop & Destruction are planning to drop in sometime over the month.

For the uninitiated: A Call For All Demons is
a sonic garden where Sun Ra's angels and demons play with genres inspired and informed by the Great Jazz Spirit.
A fusion of jazzy beats and cinematic bleats, bubbling out of the aether on Thursdays from 10 PM 'til Midnight, with Snakerhythms. KBCS 91.3 FM
